The Mountain Home High School basketball teams were able to begin 5A-West action on Friday by sweeping Siloam Springs at the Hangar.
The Lady Bombers dominated the first game of the doubleheader as they routed the Lady Panthers 62-28. Mountain Home came out dominating the first quarter by outscoring Siloam Springs 30-3. The Lady Bombers continued to hold the Lady Panthers to single-digit scoring in the second and third periods, and the mercy rule was invoked at the beginning of the final quarter as Mountain Home went on to win by 34.
Laykin Moore led the Lady Bombers with 19 points, and Jayla Yonkers added 14. Morgan Jones scored 10 points for Siloam Springs.
Mountain Home improves to 12-5 on the season and 1-0 in the 5A-West. The Lady Panthers fall to 8-8 and 0-1.
The Bomber boys finished the evening by defeating Siloam Springs 59-47. Mountain Home struggled against the Panthers’ 3-2 defense in the first few minutes of the game as Siloam Springs came out with an early 12-3 lead. However, Braiden Dewey and McGee Harris combined for five three-pointers to end the opening quarter with the Bombers up six. Mountain Home pulled further away and went into the locker room up 17. The Bombers held a double-digit advantage for the remainder of the game and posted the 12-point win.
Mountain Home was led by Dewey with 24 points, Harris had 14, and Ryder McClain chipped in 10. For the Panthers, Evan Allen finished with 12 points, and AJ Moore and Stewart Schwaninger each ended up with 10.
The Bombers are now 13-4 on the year and 1-0 in the league. Siloam Springs drops to 6-9 and 0-1.
Mountain Home is scheduled to wrap up its six-game home stand Tuesday as they renew their rivalry with Harrison.
In other 5A-West boys’ action, Van Buren topped Greenbrier 47-40, and Russellville pounded Greenwood 74-39. On the girls’ side, Greenwood edged out Russellville 71-70 in overtime, and Van Buren doubled up Greenbrier 62-31.
