Saturday morning at 8, the Mountain Home NJROTC Bomber Squadron will host the first annual Bomber Classic drill competition at the Mountain Home Junior High campus.

Seven JROTC units from across Arkansas and surrounding states, including Navy, Army, and Airforce units, will take on the Bomber Battalion in Armed and Unarmed Regulation Drill, Armed and Unarmed Exhibition Drill, Competition Color Guard, Uniform and Personnel Inspection, Academic and Physical Training events. The Bomber Classic is a regional qualifier which will advance the top three teams to the regional championship at Shawnee Mission, Ks. in February.

So far this drill season, the Bomber Battalion finished second place overall as the top performing team from Arkansas at the annual Willard, Mo. Drone and Drill competition in November and are coming off a first place overall win in their last drill meet at the annual Alma High School Airedale Invitational last month.

Last Friday, the NJROTC unit received a donation from Priscilla and Curtis Grant in the amount of $5,000 to cover the cost of hosting the drill meet as well as upcoming events later this spring. In addition to the Bomber Classic drill meet, the battalion will host the annual Drone-agedon regional drone championship for Area 13 on February 24th, as well as the first ever Baby Bomber Invitational drill meet in April.

Both The Grants are residents of the Twin Lakes Area and Mr. Grant is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. The Grants have been the battalion’s strongest supporters in recent history, donating in excess $18,000 over the last three years.
