Three inmates in the Fulton County Detention Center have picked up additional charges after they tried to start a fire inside the jail. Picking up the charges for the incident last month are Steven Hamilton, Edward Hoyer and Chandler Carlo.

According to the probable cause affidavit in the case, the trio allegedly damaged outlets in the jail when they inserted various items in them to ignite flammable items in the pod they were being held in.

Jail staff noticed the smell of something burning in the facility and when they went to investigate, the noticed an outlet had been tampered with.

When investigators reviewed video footage, Carlo could be seen shaving down pencil lead, and Hamilton was blocking the camera for Hoyer while he inserted something into the electrical socket, causing it to spark twice, leading to the burning smell. Inside the sockets, investigators found large amounts of shaved down lead which is believed to be the conduit in starting the sparks.

Hamilton, Hoyer and Carlo each face a felony charge of arson and a misdemeanor charge of impairing the operation of a vital public facility. Hamilton and Hoyer also are being charged as habitual offenders.
