White River Valley Electric Cooperative (WRVEC) announced Thursday they are asking its members to “Beat the Peak” beginning Sunday at noon until Wednesday at 9 in the morning.

According to Vice President and Chief Growth Officer Cassie Cunningham, they are trying to minimize the impact on electricity bills for everyone as the cold temperatures arrive.

Cunningham states, “Energy usage during winter weather affects the price we pay from our power providers for the next fiscal year.” Members can play a part by conserving energy the next few days by using the following the tips:

– Minimize the use of major appliances at the same time.

– Turn and keep your thermostats down 2-3%.

– Turn off lights and unplug small appliances when not in use.

These tips help not only reduce the need for energy generation, but also keeps costs more affordable.
