MHHS picks up sweep over Greenbrier

The Mountain Home High School basketball teams picked up another sweep as they wrapped up their home stand against Greenbrier on Tuesday. Matt Sharp has the details.

The evening began with the Lady Bombers defeating the Lady Panthers 63-40. Mountain Home led the game from near start to finish, and the further the contest went, the more they pulled away from Greenbrier. The Lady Bombers were up seven at the end of one, 15 at halftime and 20 after three before they went on to beat the Lady Panthers by 23.

Laykin Moore led Mountain Home with 20 points, and Jayla Yonkers added 18. Jade Steele scored 17 for Greenbrier.

The Lady Bombers improve to 16-5 on the season and 5-0 in the 5A-West. The Lady Panthers fall to 7-13 and 2-3.

Mountain Home’s boys followed by topping Greenbrier 62-45. Early on, the two teams exchanged the lead three times and had three ties, but the Bombers went on a run of 10 straight points before the Panthers hit a three at the end of the first quarter. Mountain Home had a few more runs throughout the night as they eventually went up double digits in the second half and ended up posting the 17-point win.

The Bombers were led by Braiden Dewey with 25 points, and Rhett Gilbert chipped in 15. Taylor Crum had 13 points for Greenbrier, and Aidan Berry provided 12.

Mountain Home is now 16-5 overall and 4-1 in the league. The Panthers drop to 10-11 and 1-4.

Both Bomber teams will begin a run of four straight road trips on Friday when they travel to Alma.

The Mountain Home boys moved into sole possession of third place in the 5A-West after Harrison got past Russellville 68-65. Elsewhere, Van Buren breezed past Siloam Springs 72-42, and Alma beat up on Greenwood 71-46. On the girls’ side, Harrison lost to Russellville 48-31, Van Buren routed Siloam Springs 53-23, and Greenwood destroyed Alma 82-33.
