Basketball makes up much of the local Tuesday schedule and includes a big road trip the Mountain Home High School teams. The Bombers and Lady Bombers are set to meet Russellville for a pair of makeup games.
Mountain Home’s girls enter the week as the top-ranked team in Class 5A and sixth in the state overall by the Arkansas Sports Media. The Lady Bombers, currently 17-5 on the season and 6-0 in the 5A-West, were able to hold on to sole possession of first place in the league after escaping with a three-point win Friday at Alma. Russellville is ranked fourth in Class 5A and tied for second in the conference with Greenwood. The Lady Cyclones are 15-5 and 5-1 as they come off a 17-point victory over Van Buren.
Mountain Home and Russellville are tied for third place in the boys’ standings of the 5A-West. The Bombers are 16-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play after suffering a three-point defeat at Alma. The Cyclones, currently ranked second in Class 5A and eighth overall, are 19-3 and 4-2 after beating Van Buren by five.
The junior varsity games tip off at 4:30 at Cyclone Arena. The varsity contests get underway around 6 and will be broadcast on Classic Hits 101.7 and streaming live at ktlo.com and the Bomber Sports Network on YouTube.
There are two other makeup outings in the 5A-West on Tuesday. Harrison hosts Greenwood, and Alma entertains Van Buren.
Elsewhere on the high school level, Cotter travels to Western Grove to face Ozark Mountain, Flippin is home against Green Forest, Yellville-Summit makes the trip to Haas Hall-Bentonville, Bakersfield’s boys head to Dora, the Gainesville boys hosts Seymour, Salem entertains Mountain View, Mammoth Spring travels to Lynn to take on Hillcrest, Melbourne makes the trip to Hoxie, Rural Special heads to Concord, Lead Hill travels to Deer, Bergman is home against Lincoln, Valley Springs hosts West Fork, and Omaha makes the short trip to Alpena.
In junior high basketball, Timbo heads to South Side-Bee Branch.
