A Boone County man has been arrested after an argument with his girlfriend became physical.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on Dec. 8, 2023 the Boone County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence along Sangsing Hollow Road in Harrison for a report of a physical disturbance. The caller stated that her boyfriend, 30-year-old Zachery Halbmaier, had beat her up and told authorities she ran to a neighbor’s house to get away from him.
While en route, deputies found a man walking along Sangsing Hollow Road who identified himself as Halbmaier.
When authorities asked Halbmaier if things got physical, he stated that he did not mean to hit the victim. The deputy noticed that Halbmaier had blood and marks on his knuckles.
When deputies arrived at the scene, the victim stated Halbmaier had called her multiple names. When she called him stupid and that is when it allegedly got physical. She stated Halbmaier had allegedly pushed her over in her bedroom and punched her in the head multiple times. The victim stated he then attempted to strangle her. She also stated Halbmaier took her phone from her and wouldn’t let her call 911. The victim informed authorities her four year old son saw everything.
Deputies observed the victim had multiple scratch marks on her face and neck along with some bruising and dried blood. Pictures were taken of the injury and she completed a lethality screening. The victim was also given a Laura’s card.
Halbmaier was booked into the Boone County Detention Center and was charged with a felony count of aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and interference with emergency communications. He was released on a $3,000 bond. He was ordered no contact with the victim.
