High school basketball makes up much of the local Friday schedule, and for Mountain Home, it’s Sweetheart Royalty Night. The Bombers and Lady Bombers return home for the first time in 2 1/2 weeks as they welcome Van Buren to the Twin Lakes Area.
Mountain Home’s girls are currently ranked fourth in Class 5A by the Arkansas Sports Media and are tied for the lead in the 5A-West with Greenwood. The Lady Bombers are 19-6 on the season and 8-1 in the league following a 25-point win Tuesday at Harrison. Van Buren is 16-8 and 4-5 after getting beat by Greenwood. Mountain Home defeated the Lady Pointers 55-39 on Jan. 13.
The Bomber boys are currently tied for third in the conference with Russellville. Mountain Home is 18-7 overall and 6-3 in the 5A-West after getting past Harrison in overtime on a buzzer beater from half court by McGee Harris. Van Buren is second in the league at 18-7 and 7-2 following their easy win over Greenwood. The Bombers fell to the Pointers 77-61 nearly a month ago.
The Sweetheart Royalty court will be presented between the varsity games, and the king and queen will be crowned. In addition, the “Pitch In for Foster Care” will occur at the first timeout of the boys’ game. Fans will toss out new pairs of kid’s pajamas and socks, and the items will benefit the Foster kids supported by the Call of Baxter County.
The junior varsity games tip off at 4:45 at Bomber Gymnasium. The varsity contests begin around 6 and will be broadcast on Classic Hits 101.7 and streaming live at ktlo.com.
Also in the 5A-West, Harrison travels to Greenwood, Greenbrier hosts Siloam Springs, and Russellville makes the trip to Alma.
As the Flippin High School teams play their final games of the regular season against Bergman, a fundraiser will be held for the family of Savannah Wright. The seventh grader was severely injured, and her mother was killed in a recent car wreck.
Two items will be raffled off during the games at Flippin to help Wright’s family with the costs they’ll be facing. Bergman will donate a new Winchester 12-gauge shotgun, and Flippin will donate a $1,000 Amazon gift card courtesy of S&M Plumbing, Anstaff Bank, Davenport Realty and Joey Sample of Marion County Farm Bureau.
Tickets will be available in the gym lobby and will be drawn at halftime of the senior boys’ game. The junior varsity boys will start at 4:30 followed by both varsity contests.
A different Senior Night will be held at Timbo. The evening will start with Rural Special and Omaha playing a junior varsity boys’ game, and Timbo will follow against the Eagles. The night will end with Rural Special’s girls taking on Omaha.
