West Plains School District receives possible threats

On Thursday, the West Plains Police Department received several reports of a social media post containing information of a possible threat to the West Plains School District.

According to press release, one of the summarized posts from a community members stated a juvenile had allegedly brought a gun to school and threatened two other juveniles with it. The post also indicated the juvenile and their friends would “finish the job.”

Another summarized post advised people to not go to school because there might be a school shooting.

On Wednesday, the Howell County Sheriff’s Office investigated an incident which took place on the campus of West Plains Middle School. A juvenile reportedly had a gun and made threatening statements to other juveniles. West Plains Middle School Administration along with the School Resource Officer confirmed the juvenile did not have a gun in their possession at the time.

The West Plains School District is following its policies for discipline in the matter and the Howell County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate their case.
