High school basketball makes up the local Tuesday schedule as the Mountain Home teams wrap up their current two-game home stand. The Bombers and Lady Bombers are set to welcome Russellville to the Twin Lakes Area.
Mountain Home’s girls come into the game ranked fourth in Class 5A by the Arkansas Sports Media, and they are tied for the lead in the 5A-West with Greenwood. The Lady Bombers are 20-6 on the season and 9-1 in the league after squeaking by Van Buren on Friday. The newest rankings also have Russellville second in Class 5A and eighth overall, and they are in third place in conference at one game back. The Lady Cyclones are 18-6 and 8-2 as they come off an easy win over Alma. Mountain Home fell to Russellville 72-43 in the first meeting on Jan. 30.
On the boys’ side, the Bombers and Cyclones are tied for third place in the 5A-West as both have league records of 6-4. Mountain Home is 18-8 overall following their loss to Van Buren on Friday. Russellville, currently fifth in Class 5A in the Arkansas Sports Media rankings, have a record of 21-5 after losing to Alma. The Bombers fell to the Cyclones 46-41 two weeks ago.
The junior varsity games tip off at 4:45 at Bomber Gymnasium. The varsity contests begin around 6 and will be broadcast on Classic Hits 101.7 and streaming live at ktlo.com.
Also in the 5A-West, Harrison travels to Greenbrier, Siloam Springs hosts Greenwood, and Alma makes the short trip to Van Buren.
After Monday’s weather delay, the 1A-2 District Tournament will get started Tuesday. On the boys’ bracket, Calico Rock and Timbo tip off at 5, and Norfork faces Viola at 7:30. The Calico Rock girls take on Shirley at 6:15.
The 2A-1 District Tournament will also get started following Monday’s delay. In the boys’ games, Haas Hall-Rogers and Haas Hall-Bentonville get started at 4:30, and Eureka Springs plays Life Way Christian. The girls’ contest between Eureka Springs and Haas Hall-Bentonville is slated for 6.
Three area teams will compete on the second night of the 3A-1 District Tournament at Valley Springs. Flippin’s girls will be paired with Elkins at 4. In boys’ action, Valley Springs faces West Fork at 5:15, and Flippin takes on Lincoln at 7:45.
The second night of the 2A-2 District Tournament will be held at Izard County High School in Brockwell. On the girls’ side, Marshall plays Sloan-Hendrix at 4, and the host Lady Cougars will be matched up with Cedar Ridge at 6:40. The Izard County boys face Mount Vernon-Enola at 8.
Mountain View’s girls will be in Salem for their first game in the 3A-2 District Tournament. The Lady Yellowjackets take on Tuckerman at 7.
Two area girls’ teams will be in Jasper for their openers in the 1A-1 East District Tournament. Lead Hill plays Mount Judea at 5, and Omaha goes up against Deer at 8.
Elsewhere, the Bakersfield girls entertain Dora, Bakersfield’s boys head to Winona, and the Gainesville boys travel to Hartville.
