Now through April is a critical time to clean up winter pasture weeds before they become a bigger problem later in spring. The Baxter County Extension Office will be holding a training course Tuesday evening at 6 at the Baxter County Fairgrounds in Mountain Home.

The training course is open to local farmers, ranchers and other agricultural producers who wish to renew an expiring pesticide license or receive a first-time private pesticide applicator license.

The certificate will enable farmers who are producing an agricultural commodity to purchase restricted use pesticides, which includes many insecticides and herbicides used in pasture and hay production. These include any pasture herbicide containing 2, 4-DD., some brush herbicides such as Surmount and Tordon 22K, and many insecticides containing lambda -cyhalothrin commonly used for armyworm control.

The training is expected to last approximately two hours and there is no need to pre-register. The training is not for certification of commercial, or for-hire, pesticide applicators.

The cost is $20 per person which must be paid at the door at the time of training. Separate license fees include $10 for a one year license or $45 for five years made payable to the State Plant Board. Checks or exact cash is preferred.
