The Mountain Home High School basketball teams had mixed results Friday at Greenwood, and both teams are now guaranteed a berth in the Class 5A State Tournament.

With the Lady Bombers already locked in, Mountain Home’s boys secured their bid with a 58-56 overtime victory over the Bulldogs. It was a close outing for much of the game. The Bombers were up three possessions at one point before Greenwood came back. The game had 12 lead changes and 10 ties. The score was knotted up a 48 when Ryder McClain attempted a three-pointer and missed. The ball went out of bounds, and Greenwood had one more chance to win in regulation, but Braden Bollman couldn’t get the shot off, and the extra period was needed. Mountain Home went up three in overtime with 13 seconds on a pair of free throws by Blaine Tate. Bollman went to the line with six seconds remaining, hit the first shot and missed the second. The Bulldogs got the rebounds. LJ Robins attempted the three-pointer for the win, but it was off the mark, and the Bombers escaped with the win.

Braiden Dewey led Mountain Home with 19 points, Tate scored 17, and McClain added 10. Bollman had 17 points for Greenwood, Peyton Presson and Robins each provided 11, and Jayden Garnes chipped in 10.

The Bombers improve to 19-9 on the season and 7-5 in the 5A-West. The Bulldogs fall to 4-15 and 3-9.

Mountain Home did not fare as well in the girls contest as they lost to Greenwood 80-55. It was a tight game early on as the two teams were tied at 16 at the end of the opening quarter, but the Lady Bulldogs took over from there. The Lady Bombers trailed by 10 at the break, and the struggles continued as they committed 24 turnovers on the night. Greenwood ended up with just nine as they went on to win by 25.

Mountain Home was led by Laykin Moore and Jayla Yonkers with 17 points each. For the Lady Bulldogs, Brooklyn Woolsey finished with 19 points, Anna Trusty and Carley Sexton each ended up with 18, Kylah Pearcy scored 15, and Izabella Smith added 10 points.

The Lady Bombers drop to 20-8 overall and 9-3 in the league. Greenwood is now 22-4 and 11-1.

Mountain Home will have their final road trip of the regular season on Tuesday as they travel to Greenbrier.

In other 5A-West girls’ action, Harrison fell to Van Buren 60-48, Greenbrier edged out Alma 57-54 in overtime, and Russellville doubled up Siloam Springs 58-29. On the boys’ side, Harrison was eliminated from state tournament contention with a 63-50 loss to Van Buren, Alma squeaked by Greenbrier 59-57, and Russellville breezed past Siloam Springs 71-46.
