No. 13 Arkansas softball team beats Omaha to cap Bear Down Fiesta

TUCSON, Ariz. – Redshirt senior RHP Morgan Leinstock (4-0) twirled a one-hitter as the No. 13 Arkansas softball team (8-2) fired off a 5-2 victory against Omaha Sunday at Hillenbrand Stadium.

After a 4-1 weekend at the Bear Down Fiesta, the Razorbacks move to 8-2 overall.

Leinstock (4-0) went the distance in the circle, limiting Omaha to one hit and one earned run across seven innings. Leinstock retired the first seven batters she faced before giving up a walk. The Scottsdale, Ariz., product fanned a season-high eight batters. In 13 innings pitched over the weekend, Leinstock went 2-0 and gave up just one hit and one earned run with 15 strikeouts. B acking Leinstock, the Razorback defense played flawless with zero errors on the day.

The Hogs strung together five runs on 10 hits, including a home run by Cylie Halvorson. Arkansas tallied 10 or more hits in two games and outscored opponents 26-8 while mashing seven home runs over the weekend. The Hog pitching staff only gave up five earned runs across 36 innings in Tucson. In a location known as a hitter’s launching pad, the Arkansas pitching staff did not allow a home run all weekend.

Reagan Johnson, Hannah Gammill and Rylin Hedgecock had two hits apiece vs. the Mavericks. Cylie Halvorson powered Arkansas behind her two-run home run in the second. Halvorson and Bri Ellis each plated runs on sacrifice flies.

Johnson finished the weekend with three-straight multi-hit outings after going 2-for-4 at the plate with her sixth stolen base of the season. She also leads the team with six multi-hit performances on the season.

Arkansas returns to the friendly confines of Bogle Park for its home opener at 4 p.m. Thursday against Illinois State. The Hogs host the Razorback Invitational Feb. 22-25 which features a six-game slate.
