An area man is accused of assaulting a woman after they got into an argument. Forty-two-year-old Matthew Schaeffer of Omaha is in the Boone County Jail and Detention Center on a felony count of second-degree domestic battery.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Boone County Dispatch received a call in the early evening of Jan. 7 from the victim at a residence on Goddard Lane in Omaha. She accused Schaeffer of assaulting her before he left the residence. She reportedly became hysterical, and her nephew took over the call. He claimed her aunt had an injury under one of her eyes.

A Boone County deputy arrived at the residence nearly five minutes later and observed the injury. The victim reportedly had a two-inch abrasion below her left eye appearing to be red and puffy. She was also carrying a rag in her hands with blood spots on it.

The female stated she got into an argument with Schaeffer. She reportedly told him her nephew was going to take a broken log splitter to get fixed, and Schaeffer started talking back to her. After repeatedly being asked to calm down, Schaeffer was later asked to leave, and he allegedly responded by shoving her with his chest twice and slapping her. The victim reportedly pointed a BB gun at Schaeffer, but he grabbed it and threw it to the ground, and he later did the same with her phone. She eventually was able to push him outside and lock the door.

Another deputy spoke with another female with the victim’s nephew. She claimed to have heard Schaeffer say, “I didn’t just slap her, I slapped the (expletive) out of her.”

Schaeffer had left the residence nearly 15 to 20 minutes before law enforcement arrived. He has been incarcerated since Feb. 8. The affidavit does not indicate where and how he was taken into custody.

Online jail records show Schaeffer also faces charges of interference with emergency communications, revocation of a suspended sentence, contempt of court and a probation violation. He has been ordered to have no contact with the victim.
