Baxter Co. Historical Society to host independent researcher, Abby Burnett

The Baxter County Historical and Genealogical Society will host a presentation from independent researcher Abby Burnett on February 27 at 6 in the Knox Room of the Baxter County Library.Burnett, as seen in Arkansas Educational Television Network’s 2010 documentary, “Silent Storytellers,” studies long-lost burial customs, tombstone symbolism, epitaphs and the work of early stone carvers. She is the author of the book “Gone to the Grave; Burial Customs of the Arkansas Ozarks, 1850 – 1950,” published in 2015.

Burnett has written entries on graveyards, stone carvers and early medicine for the online Central Arkansas Library System Encyclopedia of Arkansas. She also recently finished a book being considered for publication, about the most unusual tombstones and cemeteries in Arkansas cemeteries.

The event is free and open to the public.
