During the total solar eclipse on April 8, the Buffalo National River is anticipating high amounts of traffic and visitation in the days leading up to and after the eclipse. Those planning to experience the eclipse within the national park or in the surrounding communities need to plan ahead and be prepared.
Officials state Tyler Bend and Dillards Ferry will have the most parking and some of the longest totality. They suggest travelers in the area allow extra time and carpool if possible. Motorists are reminded to keep all vehicles on maintained roadways or parking lots and do not park on roads or block lanes of travel.
Camping is not allowed within a half-mile of any developed area unless it is a designated campsite. The maximum number of people per individual campsite is six, and 25 for group sites. Officials remind visitors that saving campsites is prohibited and all campsites must be occupied nightly.
Visitors should not leave equipment or other belongings behind and must pack out their trash or dispose it in proper receptacles. Officials encourage visitors to research local communities surrounding the park for services, businesses and activities offered.
Buffalo National River Partners will have solar-safe viewing glasses available at the Tyler Bend and Buffalo Contact Point Stations starting Saturday while supplies last. One solar viewer will be available per visitor.
A partial eclipse will begin at around 12:34 in the afternoon with the complete eclipse will occurring at approximately 1:52 and will last for about three and a half minutes in peak areas. All phases of the eclipse will end by 3:12 in the afternoon.
