The Izard County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to be cautious when burning.

In a recent Facebook post, the Sheriff’s Office states dispatchers have been extremely busy paging multiple volunteer fire departments to locations for reports of out of control fires. Officials state although there is not a burn ban in effect, it is the time of year farmers and land owners burn off their property.

In a report from KAIT, Izard County Sheriff Charlie Melton states firefighters have been struggling to keep up due to so many calls.

Authorities ask if residents are going to burn to call dispatch at 870-368-4203 and give them the location of the burn and a phone number, which will help dispatchers when they receive a report.

Although January was the sixth wettest month in Mountain Home with 6.38 inches of precipitation, the Arkansas Forestry Commission has the majority of the Twin Lakes Area listed as moderate fire danger. The last precipitation in Mountain Home was on February 13 with .62 of an inch.
