Regional basketball tournaments to conclude first round Thursday

High school basketball dominates the local Thursday schedule as regional tournaments in Arkansas will wrap up their first round.

Two local high schools will have both of their teams play their openers in the Class 2A West Regional Tournament at Greenland. On the girls’ side, Yellville-Summit and Mountainburg tip off at 4, and Cotter meets Western Yell County at 7. On the boys’ bracket, Cotter faces Lavaca at 5:30, and Yellville-Summit takes on Hector at 8:30.

Three area teams will be at West Side High School in Greers Ferry for their first games in the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament. Rural Special’s girls play Marked Tree at 4. In the boys’ games, Mammoth Spring will be paired with Concord at 5:30, and Rural Special meets Ridgefield Christian at 8:30.

Two area schools will send both teams to Manila for their openers in the Class 3A Region 2 Tournament. Mountain View faces Corning in a doubleheader starting with the girls at 4, the Melbourne girls take on the host Lady Lions at 7, and Melbourne’s boys play Osceola at 8:30.

The Marshall girls will begin action in the Class 2A Central Regional Tournament at Izard County High School in Brockwell. The Lady Bobcats will be matched up with England at 7.

Both of Bergman’s teams will be in Booneville for the first round of the Class 3A Region 1 Tournament. The Lady Panthers meet Cossatot River at 4, and the Bergman boys face Charleston at 5:30.

Two area teams will take part in the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament at Huntsville. Jasper’s girls take on Mulberry at 4, and the Omaha boys play County Line at 5:30.

District play continues in Missouri, and two area boys’ teams return to Mansfield for the semifinals of the Class 2, District 10 Tournament. Bakersfield will be matched up with top-seeded Hartville at 5:30, and Gainesville faces Norwood at 7.

Forsyth’s boys go back to Sparta for the semifinals of the Class 3, District 11 Tournament. The Panthers take on top-seeded Fair Grove at 5:30.
