Cotter girls among winners in Thursday’s regional tournament games

Several area high school basketball teams were in action on Thursday as regional tournaments in Arkansas wrapped up their opening rounds.

Four local teams competed on the second night of the Class 2A West Regional at Greenland.
Cotter’s girls were able to secure a state tournament bid with an easy win. The Lady Warriors routed Western Yell County 47-19.
Yellville-Summit watched its season come to an end in the other girls’ game. The Lady Panthers fell to Mountainburg 52-41.
Cotter did not fare as well on the boys’ side. The Warriors were eliminated from the tournament with a 57-40 loss to Lavaca.
The Yellville-Summit boys came up just short of continuing their season. The Panthers were edged out by Hector 56-54.

Three area teams were in action in the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at West Side High School in Greers Ferry.
Mammoth Spring’s boys ended up being one and done. The Bears suffered a 76-66 defeat at the hands of Concord.
The other boys’ game ended with Rural Special clinching a state tournament berth. The Rebels defeated Ridgefield Christian 59-45.
Rural Special had a different result on the girls’ bracket. The Lady Rebels were bounced Marked Tree 52-41.

Four area teams wrapped up the first round of the Class 3A Region 2 Tournament at Manila.
The season came to an end for both of Melbourne’s teams. The Lady Bearkatz lost to the host Lady Lions 60-52. Melbourne also fell in its boys’ game to Osceola 68-47.
Mountain View split its doubleheader with Corning during the early sessions. The Lady Yellowjackets are guaranteed a spot in the state tournament after pounding the Lady Bobcats 72-42. Mountain View was not as fortunate in the boys’ game as they lost to Corning 58-51.

Marshall’s girls secured a state tournament bid after their opener in the Class 2A Central Regional Tournament at Izard County High School in Brockwell. The Lady Bobcats topped England 67-48.

Bergman was able to sweep its first round games in the Class 3A Region 1 Tournament at Booneville. The Lady Panthers invoked the mercy rule as they beat up on Cossatot River 63-17. The Bergman boys followed up with a 55-29 win over Charleston.

Two area teams played their openers in the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament at Huntsville.
The season ended for Omaha’s boys. The Eagles were eliminated by County Line with a 72-46 decision.
The Jasper girls will be moving on to next week’s state tournament. The Lady Pirates put the mercy rule in effect as they destroyed Mulberry 74-38.

In Missouri, two area boys’ teams were in Mansfield for the semifinals of the Class 2, District 10 Tournament.
Bakersfield lost the first game of the night to top-seeded Hartville 65-46. The Lions’ season comes to an end with a record of 17-11.
Gainesville will be Hartville’s opponent in Saturday’s title game. The Bulldogs needed overtime, but they were able to get past Norwood 66-59.

Forsyth’s boys were bounced from the Class 3, District 11 Tournament at Sparta after losing their semifinal game to Fair Grove 49-44. The Panthers wrap up the year at 16-11.
