MHHS basketball teams split Senior Night games with Alma

The Mountain Home High School basketball teams wrapped up their regular season on Friday by splitting their Senior Night games with Alma.

The Lady Bombers dominated the Lady Airedales with a 59-25 decision. The game stayed close throughout the first half with three ties and two lead changes. Mountain Home dominated the second half as they outscored Alma 22-5 in the third quarter and 15-4 in the final period and invoked the mercy rule along the way.

Laykin Moore led the Lady Bombers with 19 points, and Jayla Yonkers added 10. Jordan Gramlich scored 14 points for the Lady Airedales.

Mountain Home improves to 22-8 on the season and 11-3 in the 5A-West. Alma ends its season at 8-22 and 2-12.

The Bomber boys let a double digit lead slip away as they fell to Airedales 65-53 in overtime. The opening quarter started rough for Mountain Home as they were outscored by Alma 14-3. The tide as the Bombers outscored the Airedales in the second period 22-5 and went into the locker room up six. Mountain Home went up by double digits on more than one occasion in the second half, but Alma mounted a comeback. The Airedales went up for the first time in a while with a 53-51 lead, but the Bombers forced overtime after Blaine Tate missed a layup, but Ryder McClain tipped the ball back up and in. Mountain Home went quiet as Alma finished the extra period on a 12-0 run.

The Bombers were led by Rhett Gilbert with 21 points, McClain had 14, and Braiden Dewey chipped in 10. Easton Boggs provided 16 points for the Airedales, Camden Curd and Carmani Smith each finished with 11, and Israel Towns-Robinson ended up with 10.

Mountain Home drops to 20-10 overall and 8-6 in the league. Alma finishes as the outright 5A-West conference champions at 20-9 and 13-1.

Both Bomber teams will be paired with Benton in the Class 5A State Tournament at Searcy. The boys’ game is scheduled for Tuesday at 2:30, and the girls’ contest is Thursday at 4.

In other 5A-West boys’ action, Harrison beat up on Siloam Springs 71-44, Greenbrier routed Greenwood 84-51, and Van Buren breezed past Russellville 57-34. On the girls’ side, Harrison lost to Siloam Springs 48-44, Greenwood destroyed Greenbrier 85-39, and Russellville topped Van Buren 63-50.
