FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 14 Arkansas Razorbacks (10-3) split their Friday Razorback Invitational doubleheader at Bogle Park. The Hogs throttled UT-Arlington, 9-0 (6 inn.) before falling in the nightcap, 3-1, to Wichita State.
Arkansas moves to 10-3 on the season at 2-1 at home. With the triumph over UT-Arlington, Arkansas improves to 8-3 all-time against the Mavericks. Despite the narrow loss to the Shockers, Arkansas still holds onto a 9-6 all-time series edge.
Game 1
LHP Hannah Camenzind (2-0) combined with RHP Nikki McGaffin for the six-hit shutout. Earning the win, Camenzind tallied a career high five strikeouts and effectively held the Mavericks to four hits across five innings. Handing the reigns over the McGaffin for the sixth, McGaffin allowed just one hit and worked around a runner at third to contain UT-Arlingtons offense to zero runs.
The Hogs overcame a slow start offensively against the Mavericks after scoring just one run throughout the game’s first three innings. Arkansas made adjustments at the plate and pounded out eight runs in the game’s final three frames, including three home runs. Outhitting UT-Arlington at a 10-6 clip, five of Arkansas’ hits went for extra bases.
Cylie Halvorson had herself a game, tying her career high in home runs with two solo shots – marking her third career multi-home run outing and her first as a Razorback. Rylin Hedgecock shined offensively after finishing 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Hannah Camenzind showcased why she’s a two-way star and completed the game 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Kennedy Miller continued blossoming offensively and strung together her first career triple to go along with two RBIs vs. the Mavericks.
Game 2
The Razorbacks came up empty in the nightcap despite potent performances in the circle by LHP Robyn Herron (L, 3-3) and RHP Morgan Leinstock. Seeing her fourth start in the circle this year, Herron went 3 2/3 innings and gave up two runs on four hits while striking out three. Herron also worked around five walks. Leinstock replaced Herron in the fourth and tossed the final 3 1/3 innings. The redshirt senior curbed Wichita State to one run on five hits while ringing up five.
Arkansas combined for five hits led by Reagan Johnson and Kennedy Miller’s multi-hit performances. Johnson stretched her hitting streak to seven games after going 2-for-4 and scoring Arkansas’ lone run. Miller continued to impress and compiled two hits. Nia Carter accounted for Arkansas’ fifth hit.
