Cotter girls finish 3rd, Norfork girls win regional tournament

Regional tournaments came to an end Saturday for high school basketball in Arkansas.

Cotter’s girls finished third in the Class 2A West Regional Tournament at Greenland. The Lady Warriors defeated Lavaca 46-38.

Three area teams competed on the final day of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at West Side High School in Greers Ferry.
The Norfork girls were able to leave with the championship trophy. The Lady Panthers defeated Concord by a final of 50-37.
Mammoth Spring’s girls invoked the mercy rule in the third place game as they routed Marked Tree 62-25. Laney Young led the Lady Bears with 17 points, Tay Davis scored 13, and Adrianna Corbett added 11.
Rural Special ended up in fourth place on the boys’ side of the tournament. The Rebels were edged out by West Side 60-57.

Two area girls’ teams squared off for the championship of the Class 3A Region 2 Tournament at Manila. Salem was able to get past Mountain View 47-41.

The Class 2A Central Regional Tournament came to an end at Izard County High School in Brockwell.
The host Lady Cougars were the runners-up as they fell to Mount Vernon-Enola 61-37. The Lady Warhawks remain unbeaten on the season.
Marshall was able to capture third place on the girls’ bracket. The Lady Bobcats picked up a 52-48 victory over Quitman.
The Marshall boys also finished third after a dominating win. The Bobcats breezed past Sloan-Hendrix 71-50.

Bergman swept the championship games of the Class 3A Region 1 Tournament at Booneville. The Lady Panthers beat their rivals from Valley Springs 45-39. Bergman’s boys put the mercy rule in effect as they pounded Booneville 80-49.

Three area teams finished action in the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament at Huntsville.
Omaha took third place on the girls’ side. The Lady Eagles ended up with a 52-47 win over Alpena.
Jasper’s girls wrapped up the week as the regional runners-up. The Lady Pirates fell to Kingston 55-50.
The Jasper boys finished in fourth place in the tournament. The Pirates suffered an 88-47 defeat at the hands of the New School.

In Missouri, Gainesville’s boys fell one win short of a state tournament berth. The Bulldogs went to Mansfield for the title game of the Class 2, District 10 Tournament as fell to Hartville 67-42. Gainesville ends its season at 18-10.
