MHHS boys finish 5th, girls take 7th place in state wrestling tournament

The Arkansas State High School Wrestling Tournament came to an end Saturday at the Jack Stephens Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Mountain Home finished fifth in the Class 5A boys’ team standings as Van Buren won the state title. Individually for the Bombers, James Wilburn won the 157-pound division, Isaiah Merry won the 175, and Noah Lagg was second in the 215.

The Class 5A girls’ standings ended up with Mountain Home in seventh place, and the championship went to Searcy. For the Lady Bombers, Olivia McCoy took second place in the 135-pound division, Leigha Gatewood finished third in the 140, and Jocelyn Bryant was third in the 145.

In addition, one area athlete competed in Class 4A. Mountain View’s boys were represented by Maverick Woods as he ended up third in the 144-pound division.
