ASUMH splits 2nd doubleheader with Northeastern Oklahoma A&M

The ASU-Mountain Home baseball team ended up splitting its second doubleheader with Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Sunday in Miami.

The Trailblazers lost the opener to the Golden Norsemen 13-9 after giving up 13 base hits. ASU-Mountain Home got on the board in the top of the first inning with a solo home run by Sammy Lemond and an RBI single by Gabriel Ellison. After Northeastern Oklahoma tied the game in the bottom half of the inning, the Blazers went back on top after Lemond and Alex Harrell each hit RBI singles, and Lemond also stole home. The Norsemen scored five runs in the fourth inning and five more in the sixth to put the game away.

Lemond and Harrell each provided two hits for ASU-Mountain Home, and Kolby Webb was 1-for-2 with four RBIs.

The Blazers bounced back in the late game with a 7-1 win over Northeastern Oklahoma. ASU-Mountain Home got the scoring started with a sacrifice fly by Jackson Down in the first inning. The Blazers extended the lead further in the third with a sacrifice fly by Webb and a double by Jason Young. Tristan Wheelus provided a solo home run in the fourth frame, and Young added a solo shot in the fifth.

Trent Jordan picked up the victory as he pitched a complete game, struck out seven batters and gave up four hits, one walk and one run. ASU-Mountain Home also didn’t commit a single error in the game.

Lemond led the Blazer offense by going 4-for-4, and Young was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

ASU-Mountain Home is now 10-3 on the season, and they’ll return to Cooper Park Thursday as ASU Mid-South comes in from West Memphis.
