High school basketball makes up much of the local Tuesday schedule as Mountain Home’s boys will be among the teams in state tournament play. The Bombers will be in Searcy as they face Benton in their opener of the Class 5A State Tournament.
Mountain Home enters the postseason with a record of 20-10. The Bombers, who ended the regular season Friday with an overtime loss to Alma, ended up tied for third in the 5A-West, but they have the No. 4 seed after Russellville won the tiebreaker.
In the latest rankings from the Arkansas Sports Media, Benton is the top-ranked team in Class 5A and fourth overall. The Panthers are 26-4 and go into the state tournament as conference champions after finishing their 5A-South slate unbeaten. Their last game was a week ago when they went to Hot Springs and picked up a 10-point win over Lakeside.
This will be the second meeting of the season between Mountain Home and Benton. The Bombers fell to Panthers 66-64 in double overtime on Dec. 9 in the Bad Boy Mowers Cardinal Classic at Farmington. Mountain Home head coach Josh Fulcher says in the previous game, Benton was without Terrion Burgess.
