Friday basketball results include Cotter girls falling, Norfork girls winning in state quarterfinals

Four area high school basketball teams played their quarterfinal games in the Class 2A State Tournament on Friday at Mansfield.
Cotter’s girls ended up losing to unbeaten Mount Vernon-Enola by a final of 64-20. The Lady Warriors’ season ends at 26-10.
Izard County was able to advance to Saturday’s semifinals. The Lady Cougars squeaked by Acorn 71-69.
Izard County’s next opponent will be Mansfield, who is also undefeated. Marshall suffered a 67-26 loss to the host Lady Tigers.
Marshall fared better on the boys’ side as they moved on to the semifinals. The Bobcats routed Lavaca 84-55.

Two area teams competed in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A State Tournament at North Arkansas College in Harrison.
The Norfork girls took another step toward getting back to the title game. The Lady Panthers inovked the mercy rule as they routed Emerson 58-27.
Rural Special was eliminated from the boys’ bracket. The Rebels were edged out by Brinkley 64-61.

Four area teams took part in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A State Tournament at Elkins.
Salem ended up winning the last girls’ game of the night. The Lady Greyhounds topped Lamar by a score of 52-39.
Bergman was able to take the first game of the day. The Lady Panthers bounced Mountain View from the tournament with a 64-54 victory.
Bergman also advanced to the semifinals on the boys’ side. The Panthers needed overtime, but they got past Osceola 55-50.

In Missouri, two area girls’ teams squared off in the semifinals of the Class 5, District 6 Tournament at Marshfield. West Plains ended up falling to Branson 61-52. The Lady Zizzers end their season at 20-8. The Lady Pirates improve to 17-10, and they’ll face Marshfield for the district title on Monday.
