The ASU-Mountain Home softball team had a tough road trip on Tuesday as they got swept by ASU-Newport.
The opening game ended with the Trailblazers falling to the Aviators 8-0. Flippin High School alum Cheyanne Merkel led ASU-Mountain Home by going 2-for-2, and fellow freshman Courtney Vess was 1-for-2.
In the second game, the Blazers’ lead slipped away as ASU-Newport’s five-run sixth inning, including a grand slam, gave them the 14-11 victory. ASU-Mountain Home was led by Kaitlynn Horton as she went 4-for-4 with a double and seven RBIs. Tinley Williams went 2-for-3, drew a walk and scored four runs.
The Blazers fall to 0-8 on the season, and they’ll return to Keller Park on Saturday for a doubleheader with North Arkansas College.
