MH student’s life saved by bus driver after getting choked on candy

There were some scary moments on a Mountain Home School District bus Wednesday during afternoon drop off of students when one of the kids got choked on candy and was unable to breathe. Other students alerted the driver of the bus, David Luttrell, who was able to stop the bus and perform the Heimlich maneuver on 13-year-old Brooklyn Bailey, saving her life.

Bailey says it was a scary experience and she wasn’t sure if she was going to live.

She says the other students were able to get Luttrell’s attention and he pulled the bus over and performed the Heimlich maneuver.

The next day at school, she says the story of what happened took on a life of its own.

Bailey says she took the two largest bags of life savers she could find to Luttrell at school the next day.

Luttrell is also a teacher and track coach at Mountain Home Junior High.
