Lakeview resident Steve Parsons has announced his candidacy for U.S. Congress, Arkansas District 1. Parsons, who received the nomination from the Libertarian Party of Arkansas in February, will be running against Republican incumbent Rick Crawford and Democratic candidate Rodney Govens.

Parsons states he chose to run because voters deserve another choice besides the two parties. He says, “My campaign is about less government and more freedom. This means less government intrusion into personal decisions such as whether one uses a seat belt or smokes marijuana. This also means less government intrusion into business operations such as decisions regarding hiring, compensation, and benefits.”

Moving to Lakeview in 2016 with his wife Dr. Susan Parsons, who is a retired pathologist, Parsons has his Ph.D in economics and is a retired consultant working with clients from around the world. He was an adjunct professor teaching the Economics of Technology to graduate students in engineering at Washington University in St. Louis for over 20 years.

Parsons stated, “If elected, I will donate my entire salary to charities in District 1.”
