State investigators have arrested a former east Arkansas police chief marshal. Arkansas State Police said 25-year-old Jacob Gammel was arrested at his home in Wheatley Monday afternoon. Gammel was previously chief marshal with the Wheatley Police Department.

The former chief marshal is accused of accepting money from a convenience store owner on a monthly basis in exchange for protection involving gaming machines at the store. He is facing counts of felony perjury and theft of property.

Gammel was booked into the St. Francis County Detention and Dispatch Center shortly after noon on Monday.
