Stone County man arrested after allegedly stealing truck; wallet from a home

A Stone County man has been arrested following allegations of theft. Thirty-four-year-old Dusty Allan Rhoades is currently facing three felony charges including theft.

According to the probable cause affidavit, early Tuesday morning, the Stone County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a single-vehicle accident north of Onia and Arkansas Highway 263. The vehicle, a white GMC, was located and found abandoned. The vehicle was later identified as having been stolen from the Mountain Home area.

While awaiting the wrecker to take the vehicle, a man approached deputies and claimed he awoke to find his home and shop had been broken into and a vehicle stolen from his yard.

Deputies arrived at the victim’s residence to find his shop had been broken into and items were rummaged. They then saw fresh tracks in the mud leading to a storage building where a set of keys were lying beside the door. The tracks then led to a door that had fresh pry markings. The door led into a bedroom where deputies found a purse where a wallet had been stolen. Deputies went through an exterior into the yard where they observered fresh tracks from where a 2002 white Dodge Ram 2500 had been. Law enforcement issued a be on the lookout (BOLO) for the vehicle.

Contact was made with authorities in Mountain Home who were able to identify the suspect as Rhoades based on video footage of him in control of the vehicle after it had been reported stolen. After searching the vehicle, deputies found Rhoades’ paperwork and the jacket he had been wearing in the video footage.

Later that afternoon, the Arkansas State Police was able to recover the stolen truck and wallet and arrest Rhoades.

Rhoades has a criminal history showing more than four felony convictions and is on probation. He is also listed as a violent offender.

Rhoades is currently being held in the Marion County Detention Center on a hold for Baxter County. He faces felony charges of breaking or entering, residential burglary, theft of property, a misdemeanor of leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage and an enhancement of habitual offender. Court documents show his bond set at $350,000.
