Primary runoff results include new JPs getting elected in Izard, Boone counties

Tuesday’s primary runoff election resulted in the election of a pair of new justices of the peace in the area.

Current Izard County District 7 JP Michael Cone was defeated by 30 votes by his challenger, Quillen P. Edwards. Edwards ended up with 71 votes for 63%. Cone garned 41 votes for 37% of the tally. Edwards, a Republican, will take his seat on the quorum court in January with no opponent in November’s general election.

In Boone County, Kyle Evatt will become the new justice of the peace for District 5 next year. In Tuesday’s Republican runoff, Evatt secured 161 votes for 69% and defeated Danny Hickman, who had 71 votes for 31%. Evatt will not be opposed in November and will succeed current JP Fred Woehl Jr., who did not run for reeelction.

All results are unofficial until they are certified by their respective county election commissions.
