The court ended up appropriating funds to hire a few new county employees. The sheriff’s office will receive funding for a full-time patrol deputy, a temporary full-time jailer for the Baxter County Detention Center and the purchase of a new vehicle and equipment. The court also approved the funding for a full-time secretary in the public defender’s office and a temporary full-time deputy assessor.

The court began by appropriating nearly $12,000 received in fees and reimbursements to the sheriff’s office 2024 budget. They also appropriated over $136,000 from the road and bridge fund to the road and bridge department budget, $1,000 from the county general fund to the miscellaneous reimbursements budget, over $48,000 from the boating safety and water patrol fund to the boating safety and water patrol budget and $92,000 from the jail maintenance and operation fund to the jail maintenance and operation budget.

In addition, the court adopted a few revisions and additions to the county’s and sheriff’s office’s personnel policies. They also enacted revisions to the county code of ordinances as required by Arkansas law.

Every vote taken by the quorum court on Tuesday was unanimous.
