A man learned his fate last week after a routine traffic stop last year in Douglas County resulted in the discovery of child pornography on his cellphone. Thirty-two-year-old Thomas Richardson of Seymour was sentenced April 2 to 20 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to a felony count of possession of child pornography (more than 21 images) as a prior and persistent sex offender.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Richardson was stopped by a deputy last May for failing to stop at a stop sign. The deputy located methamphetamine in the vehicle, and after consent was obtained, he searched Richardson’s cellphone and located child pornography. The phone was sent to the Cybercrimes Task Force, where the images were seized as evidence.

Richardson was a prior registered Tier 3 sex offender.
