In late March, several military veterans aged 75 to 100-years-old were invited to fly in a Boeing 1943-built Stearman bi-plane called the “Spirit of Wisconsin” for flights around the Twin Lakes Area.

Dream Flights is a charitable organization which flies former WWII pilot training aircraft around the county to honor heroes, veterans and seniors with a flight in the Boeing Stearman bi-plane. During the flight, pilots, crew and observers listen to stories to collect, preserve and share memories on how the veterans survived through hard times.

Team members of Dream Flights works with the senior housing industry to achieve the foundation’s mission by helping to identify veterans and seniors available to take the flights, providing logistics and support and safely returning them to their living space.

Among the veterans flying on the first day were William Cubr, U.S. Army; Neauman DD. Coleman, U.S. Army Field Artillery; Bryon York; Harold Eckardt-USN, USS Coral Sea; Ronald Olson-Naval Air Force; Albert Cookson-USAF; Willam Skipper, Marine Corps, Vietnam and Harold Steele, U.S. Army missile repair, Vietnam. These men held various combat medals and citations.

The event was hosted by Bayird Air, pilot Hunter Stuckey and his assistant Jennifer.
