Baxter County officials and community members will be celebrating the opening of an improved roadway north of Cotter. A ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday morning at 10 for the dedication of the new Denton Ferry Bridge over Hightower Creek on Denton Ferry Road, also known as County Road 1.
Cotter-Gassville Rural Fire Chief Jimmy Morgan says the new bridge is a welcome sight to many, especially emergency personnel.
Listen:
In addition, to the Federal Emergency Management Agency mitigation funds, funding was also provided by the American Rescue Plan Act. The bridge replaces a five-culvert, low-water crossing. The crossing was flooded on multiple occasions due to debris clogging the openings during high-water events.
Chief Morgan says if the old crossing was washed out, emergency responses in the area became more difficult.

The Cotter-Gassville Rural Fire Department will host a reception following the dedication at the bridge. The reception will be held at the fire station at 39 Waterside Place, near the Wildcat Shoals boat ramp.
