Four area counties will be among 27 in Missouri to receive funding from the U.S. Forest Service. The Show Me State is receiving over $2.6 million from Secure Rural Schools, a program providing critical funding for schools, roads and other municipal services to benefit communities in and around national forest Land.
Ozark County is set to receive $88,536 from the program, Howell County will get $106,161, $113,519 will go to Taney County, and Douglas County will take in $105,931. Each county will decide what percentage of their funding will go schools and roads, projects on federal lands or county projects.
The money comes from a portion of Forest Service funds generated through multi-use activities, including grazing, timber production and special use permits. The distribution will come this month from last year’s funds.
