Unemployment continues to improve in north central Arkansas, mixed numbers in southern Missouri

The latest unemployment numbers from the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services and the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center show March’s unemployment rates in north central Arkansas continue to improve while southern Missouri counties show a mixed bag when compared February.

In Baxter County, the rate declined from 4.1% in February to 3.9% in March. Baxter County’s rate is tied for the 42nd lowest out of Arkansas’ 75 counties. There are 662 unemployed Baxter County residents out of a work force of 16,915.

Marion County’s rate went down from 4.9% in February to 4.4% in March, ranking it as tied for the 60th lowest in the state. Marion County has 259 residents out of work from a work force of 5,900.

Fulton County’s unemployment rate went down from 4.1% in February to 3.8% in March, which means they are tied for the 38th lowest rate in the state. Fulton County has a labor force of 4,538 and 174 are unemployed.

The unemployment rate in Izard County decreased from 5.1% in February to 5% in March, which has them tied for number 69 out of 75 counties in Arkansas. There are 222 Izard County residents unemployed out of a work force of 4,450.

In Stone County, the rate decreased from 4.8% in February to 4.1% in March. That ranks Stone County tied for 49th in the state. There are 4,552 in the labor force in Stone County with 188 unemployed.

Searcy County’s unemployment rate dwindled from 4.8% to 4.1% in March, ranking them tied for 49th in Arkansas. There are 118 people unemployed in Searcy County out of a work force of 2,852.

Boone County saw its rate shrink from 3.5% in February to 3.3% in March, putting them in a tie for the 14th lowest rate in the state. Boone County has a work force of 15,994 with 531 out of work.

Newton County is tied for the state’s 38th lowest unemployment rate at 3.8%, down from 4.5% the previous month. Newton County has a labor force of 3,231 with 123 of those unemployed.

Arkansas’s unemployed rate in March was 3.5%, down from 3.6% the previous month.

In southern Missouri, Ozark County’s rate had a big drop from 7.7% in February to 6.2% in March. Ozark County has 218 unemployed out of a work force of 3,511.

Douglas County saw its rate ease up from 3.9% in February to 4.1% in March. In Douglas County, the labor force is 5,244, and there are 217 out of work.

Howell County’s rate went up from 4.2% to 4.5% in March. Howell County has work force of 16,407 with 732 unemployed.

Taney County’s rate had a dramatic drop, going from 13.9% in February to 5.8% in March. There are 1,471 unemployed in Taney County out of a labor force of 25,402.

Missouri’s rate decreased from 4.0% in February to 3.7% in March.
