The Mountain Home City Council approved a $40,000 economic development contract during its regular meeting Thursday night. The contract is with a new organization called the North Central Arkansas Economic Alliance which is made up of local business leaders and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
The alliance will work to bring economic expansion and development to the Twin Lakes Area, especially in the areas of tourism, manufacturing and small business.
The city will pay $10,000 quarterly to the alliance with the funds coming from business license fees which last year generated over $140,000. The contract runs through the end of 2024 and will be reevaluated at the beginning of 2025.
In other business, the council approved two real estate related ordinances. The first rezones the western part of the parcel of land located between Coley Drive and Arkansas Avenue that is just east of College Street from Residential R-2 to Residential R-4. The other item was the approval of the final plat of Glenbriar Commons Phase 2B and improvements. Both ordinances were put on second and third readings and passed with emergency clauses, meaning they go into effect immediately.
The Mountain Home City Council also reappointed Randy Worlow to the Baxter County Equalization Board.
