A propane leak was determined to have led to a residential explosion Saturday night in Douglas County. Four individuals in the Goodhope area residence were killed in the incident.

Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase says he and his deputies, the Ava Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Goodhope Fire Department responded to the explosion. They were later assisted on the scene by sheriff’s bomb squads from Christian and Greene counties, Christian County Sheriff Brad Cole, the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms.

Following an investigation, it was determined the homeowners were making renovations to the residence. The propane leak reportedly resulted from the renovations.

The names of the victims were not released in the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report.
