Cotter School Board approves school bus purchase, 2 resignations

The Cotter School Board approved the purchase of a school bus during its recent regular May session. The district will spend $78,000 for a 2017 Chevrolet Starcraft 14-passenger bus. The vote was unanimous.

Two resignations were unanimously approved during the executive session. Jared Wilhite will step down as the head softball coach, and Brenda McElya will resign from her food-service position. Wilhite will continue as the girls’ basketball coach.

The board also unanimously approved professional development year to start June 1 and continue through May 31, 2025. In addition, they agreed to have Superintendent Jayme Jones serve on the board of directors for the Ozarks Unlimited Resources Education Service Cooperative.

Three student transfers were approved by the Cotter School Board. One student will enter Cotter from Flippin, and two will leave Cotter for Mountain Home.

Jones reported the enrollment was 389 at Amanda Gist Elementary and 317 at Cotter High School for a total of 706 students.
