A West Plains man was arrested for allegedly breaking into a vehicle and stealing property. Thirty-one-year-old Jon Dalton Watson is currently facing charges of breaking or entering, theft and fraudulent use of a debit card.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on May 8, Mountain Home Police Officers were dispatched to a local business for a report of theft. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, who stated she had run into the store for five to ten minutes and when she returned to her vehicle, her purse and cell phone were missing. She told authorities she had a .380 caliber pistol, two credit cards and a debit card inside the purse.

Officers were able to view the security footage and observed at approximately 6:43 in the morning, a red Dodge flatbed pickup truck pulled up next to the victim’s vehicle, where the suspect, later identified as Watson, exited the driver’s side door and entered the victim’s vehicle from the passenger side. Watson then grabbed the purse and phone, returned to his truck and left. At approximately 6:57, Watson allegedly entered another local business and attempted to use the stolen debit card twice but was declined.

At approximately 7:30, Watson allegedly left the area, heading East on U.S. Highway 62 East, where he was seen on video going through Bakersfield a half hour later. His vehicle was found abandoned in the Howell County area. It was later reported the truck he was driving had been stolen from Tecumseh earlier in the morning.

Watson was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center and is facing one felony count of breaking or entering, one felony count of theft of property firearm less than $2,500, three felony counts of theft of property credit/debit card and two felony counts of fraudulent use of a credit card or debit card less than $1,000. He is currently being held on a $25,000 bond.
