A Boone County man is facing burglary charges following an incident where he and another man were observed breaking into an impound lot.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on May 2, officers from the Harrison Police Department responded to a report that a business impound lot had been broken into.

Upon arrival, officers were advised by the owners that at approximately 12:30 in the morning, they observed two individuals climbing over the side fencing of their impound lot. On video, officers could see both of the suspects’ faces until they later covered them with bandanas. After further investigation, authorities were able to identify one of the suspects as 30-year-old Travis Smith.

The owner advised officers he knew the other male because he called wanting items out of a Ford Ranger that had been towed during his prior arrest.

Smith and the second suspect were seen on video climbing the fence and going through the second suspect’s Ford Ranger, a Ford F-250 and a van, which was involved in a fatality accident a few days prior. Both suspects were observed carrying items back across the fence and loading them into Smith’s vehicle, which had no plates.

Smith was booked into the Boone County Detention Center, where he is facing a felony count of commercial burglary. He is currently being held on a $10,000 bond.
