40 Union Pacific train cars went off the tracks in Arkansas County near Stuttgart on Friday.
Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARdot) officials said all lanes of Highway 79 are impacted due to the incident. ARdot believes the incident was caused by straightline winds. One witness reported, “One of the guys on the train told us high winds blew the engine off the tracks and the rest was a domino effect.”
ARdot says the train was carrying batteries and medical equipment. All of the train box cars are intact, but there are possibly hazardous chemicals from the airbags and seat belt tensioners.
No injuries were reported in the 6:30 P.M. accident.
