Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders on May 29, 2024, mobilized over 180 Arkansas Army National Guardsmen assigned to the 142nd Field Artillery Brigade to state active duty to support tornado recovery efforts in Northwest Arkansas.
They will support two requests for assistance (RFA). The first RFA calls for 28 Soldiers to staff traffic control points in Rogers, Ark., during daylight hours to help control traffic to facilitate debris removal sites and secure damaged buildings and property. This mission is for a minimum of 10 days and could be extended, depending on conditions on the ground.
The second RFA calls for 158 Soldiers to manage traffic control points in support of local law enforcement during daylight hours, enabling safe power restoration without the interruption of traffic. This mission will continue until electricity is restored at a date to be determined.
“Our hearts go out to those who have been negatively affected by this past weekend’s storms,” said Maj. Gen. Jonathan Stubbs, Arkansas’ adjutant general. “We’re all in on doing our part to help the affected areas recover as quickly as possible.”
The 142nd Field Artillery Brigade is headquartered in Fayetteville and has subordinate units in Barling, Bentonville, Lincoln, Ozark, and Siloam Springs.
The Arkansas National Guard assumes support roles to augment civil authorities, where needed and directed by the Governor, to help in a crisis.
