Governor visits Briarcliff, announces FEMA federal declaration for Baxter County

Six days after visiting Marion County, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders returned to the Twin Lakes Area. The governor paid a visit to Briarcliff to tour the damage from the early morning tornado that tore through the area on May 26, and during her visit, she told KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot News Baxter County is the latest area to be approved for a federal declaration from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

During her walk across Scalpa Drive, Gov. Sanders met with one of the couples residing in Briarcliff. She says the couple informed her about the morning of the storm and how they huddled together with their neighbors.

The governor went on to say that her visit to Briarcliff is a symbol to show that the state is going to be here for the rebuilding process.

Baxter County will join the list of counties in Arkansas, including Marion and Boone, to receive a declaration from FEMA and make federal funding available to affected individuals. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster. Individuals and business owners who sustained losses in the designated areas can begin applying for assistance by registering online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 800-621-3362 or by using the FEMA App.
