Local schools do well in annual Missouri State Highway Patrol school bus inspections

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has finished its annual school bus inspections and most area schools fared well. This year, the patrol inspected a total 11,360 buses with 895 being rated “defective” and 410 rated as “out of service.” Buses with defective components must be repaired within 10 days. Buses that are placed out of service must be repaired and re-inspected before they can transport passengers.

A total of 262 Missouri school districts, including eight in south central Missouri, earned the patrol’s Total Fleet Excellence Award for having all of their buses rated as approved.

In Ozark County, Gainesville had all 16 of its buses rated as approved. Bakersfield had eight buses rates approved, one rated defective and one rated out of service. Lutie had four its five buses rated approved and one defective. Ten of Dora’s 12 buses were rated approved, one was defective and one was placed out of service. At Thornfield, two buses were rated approved, one defective and one out of service.

In Douglas County, Ava had 18 of its 32 buses rated approved, five were rated defective and nine were rated out of service. All six of Skyline’s buses were rated approved. Plainview has three buses, with one placed in each category.

In Howell County, West Plains had 23 of its 25 buses rated approved while the other two were rated defective. At Willow Springs, all 20 buses were rated approved. The Fairview school had 11 of its 12 buses rated as approved with the other bus marked as defective. The Richards school had all ten of its buses rated as approved. Junction Hill had five buses rated approved while the other was rated out of service.   All six of the buses for the Glenwood school were rated approved. The Howell Valley school had five buses rated approved with one bus rated defective.

In Taney County, Branson saw 59 of its 63 buses rated at approved, two were rated as defective and two as out of service. Hollister had all 30 of its buses rated approved.   At Forsyth, 19 of their 21 buses were approved while the other two were rated defective. The Kirbyville district had all eight of its buses rated approved. At Bradleyville, six buses were rated approved and two were rated out of service. All four buses at Taneyville were rated approved.
