An alum of Valley Springs High School is returning home. Dawson Yates was recently hired as the new head coach of his alma mater’s high school and junior high girls’ basketball teams.
Yates says he is excited to be given his first head coaching opportunity on the varsity level at the same high school he graduated from in 2011.
Listen:
Yates will lead the Lady Tigers after spending the last four years as the assistant coach of the women’s team at Harding University in Searcy, where he played his last two years of college basketball and received his bachelor’s degree in 2016. He says working with and learning from Tim Kirby helped him prepare for this next career move.
Listen:
Yates met with his players shortly after he was hired last month. He says is looking forward to having his student athletes continue Valley Springs’ tradition of excellence on the court and in the classroom.
Listen:
Yates is succeeding Ryan Johnson, who left Valley Springs for the same position at Bentonville West High School in Centerton. Yates says he hopes fans will continue to come out and support the Lady Tigers. He also gave praise to boys’ coach Jarred Osnes and his team and says he’s eager to work with them.
