With Vice President Luke Walker absent, the Cotter School Board unanimously approved of two district policy revisions for the district’s personnel policy committee. One was an addition stating if a teacher runs unopposed for the committee, then that candidate automatically gets the position without the need for an election. The other states all committee meetings shall be recorded, but it may be paused to protect confidential student or employee information. In addition, the district’s website should include committee positions up for election, the names of candidates running for the committee, information on the conduction of the election, its results and minutes from each committee meeting.
In addition, handbooks were unanimously approved for the upcoming school year for Amanda Gist Elementary and Cotter High School. The board also voted in favor of a mathematics curriculum quote from Curriculum Associates for over $71,000, the Food Service Community Eligibility Program and the Student Accident Insurance Plan to Cotter parents.
The board later went into executive session for personnel matters. They unanimously agreed to have Superintendent Jayme Jones and girls’ basketball coach Jared Wilhite as two of their bus drivers. The board also accepted the resignations of third grade teacher Jamie Ivens, paraprofessional Steven Thompson and custodian Terry Schuman.
The board wrapped up the evening by approving student transfers. Two students will be transferring into the Cotter School District, and seven others will transfer out.
The meeting lasted over 2 1/2 hours.
