On Tuesday, Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin announced that his office is establishing a cold case investigation unit.

Griffin made the announcement at the state’s 13th-annual Missing Persons event in Benton. The Attorney General said it came out of his awareness of a growing need. Griffin said his office would provide resources statewide and coordinate efforts across multiple state agencies. He said the cold case unit will operate using existing appropriations and not require any additional state resources.

“I’ve had many people bring cold cases to my attention in the past, and to date I’ve had to refer them to other law enforcement agencies,” Griffin said. “No one agency can do it all, and bringing the expertise and resources of my office to this effort is a good and right step to take.”

The cold case unit would be part of the office’s Special Investigations Division under Chief Wayne Bailey.
